Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Hako ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time, and your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of any changes.

2. Description of Service

Hako is a universal inbox application that allows you to save and organize various types of content including URLs, recipes, todos, and notes. The App uses end-to-end encryption to protect your data, meaning only you can access your content.

3. Account Registration

To use Hako, you must create an account using Apple Sign-In. You agree to:

• Provide accurate information during registration
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

4. Privacy and Data Security

Your privacy is fundamental to Hako. We implement zero-knowledge encryption, which means:

• Your content is encrypted on your device before transmission
• We cannot read, access, or decrypt your data
• Only you hold the encryption keys to your content
• Your recovery key is essential for account recovery

5. Subscription and Payments

Hako offers a subscription service ("Hako Pro") with the following terms:

• Subscriptions are billed annually through the Apple App Store
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings
• No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods, except as required by applicable law

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Hako to:

• Violate any applicable laws or regulations
• Infringe on the rights of others
• Store or transmit malicious code
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the service
• Use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose

7. Intellectual Property

The Hako App, including its design, features, and content (excluding user-generated content), is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of all content you create or store in Hako. By using the App, you grant us a limited license to process your encrypted data solely to provide the service.

8. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the App settings. Upon deletion:

• All your data will be permanently removed from our servers
• This action cannot be undone
• Active subscriptions should be cancelled separately through the App Store

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

9. Disclaimers

Hako is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Due to our zero-knowledge architecture, we cannot recover your data if you lose your encryption keys or recovery phrase.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Hako. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim.

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or via email. Your continued use of Hako after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of San Francisco County, California.
